THURSDAY 13....MY FAVORITE CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FROM MY CHILDHOOD!

1.) Baby Alive....

...she was my favorite doll ever...until I fed her tuna fish, Mom started to smell something rancid, found it was coming from my doll...had to throw her out..I was devestated..my five year old mind could not comprehend that she was not really alive and tuna fish....was not such good thing for her to have.

2.) Donny and Marie Dolls...

The picture posted is not one of the actual dolls, but close...they had on purple chiffon outfits, came with their own sound stage, microphone and everything..I remember, when their t.v. show would come on, I would have everything set up so I could play with them and watch their show at the same time.

3.) Fashion Plates...

I spent hours creating my own "designs"....I think I was about 8 or 9 when I got this for Christmas...I loved it...I just knew someone was going to recognize my talents and want me to design for them in Paris or somewhere....pipe dreams....I tell ya...what hopes we have as kids.

4.) Strawberry Shortcake...

I just loved her..she smelled great...she came with friends...I was a Strawberry Shortcake freak..I had her and several of her friends....I remember taking her to school, like in first grade or something..at recess, some boy stepped on her playing kick-ball or something anD smashed the side of her face in...never got his shoe mark off of her face.

5.) Snow White Mirror Mirror on the Wall....

I think this was one of my creepier presents....it has this button, you pushed, it would show the sorcerer in the mirrors reflection as he said the Mirror Mirror on the Wall, Whose the Fairest of them all..then it would show your reflection....creepy!

6.) Barbie Hair Style Head...geez, I don't know what else to call it..

I also wanted to be a cosmetologist when I grew up...I practiced on this Barbie head so much, her hair started to fall out..I also used magic markers on her face, for make-up...she ended up looking like a body less prostitute..lol...

7.) Barbie Townhouse....

I was a Barbie Freak..aren't most girls? Even today...girls everywhere love them....my cousin had the Barbie Mansion...with pool, camper, everything..times were tough for my Mom, so, this was all she could afford..she picked it up at a yardsale, but it was in great condition...I never knew that, until years later...because she had it all set up on Christmas Morning, I thought Santa had brought it...I loved that thing.

8.) Cabbage Patch Doll

I never had the real thing...I wanted one really bad, but Mom could not afford to buy me one, so one Christmas, she had a lady she knew that made "adoptive dolls", similar to the cabbage patch doll...well, she must of been drinking when she made mine...because it's head was shaped like a football, kind of like that Nickolodeon cartoon, Hey, Arnold! It had enough yellow yarn on it's head to crochet an afghan...lol..It did have the cute little butt though, I loved that doll..until I took it to school one day, two girls beat me up and took her from me, the teacher found her in the trash can...after that, I was never the same about dolls...nor did I ever take one to school again, even though all of the other girls were bringing theirs.

9.) Paper Dolls....

I had quite the collection of these little rainy day gems...shoe boxes full..I could spend an entire afternoon of playing with these...every time Mom went to town, I had to have a new book of them..always got them, along with coloring books, for Christmas.

10.) Easy Bake Oven....

When my Mom would bake...I would have to pull out my little Easy Bake oven and bake too...although, everything "baked" in it always came out tasting like crap!

11.) Little House on the Prairie Books..Boxed set...

Man, I wished I still had these...I got them when I think I was about eight, and I read the entire set over Christmas break....re read them several times over the years. My favorite childhood books ever!

12.) Sweet Valley High Books Boxed Set...

I lived vicariously through these girls....read every single book in the entire series.

13. ) Shrinky Dinks....

Let's just say, Me and this toy...resulted in a lot of burns...but man, they were fun.

Well, I guess that is enough of the childhood memories...Did any of you ladies have any of these toys?

Dixiechick....out!

What a walk through memory lane! I loved Strawberry Shortcake and had the doll whose breath smelled like strawberries when you squeezed her tummy. I also had my entire room decorated in the Strawberry Shortcake theme and had a bunch of the toys.

I loved the Shrinky Dinks and wish they still made them so I could do them with my kids.

Sweet Valley High was AWESOME! I read the books and had the game. hehe

I also liked this game called Mall Madness and I think it is still around, but a little more updated.

Oh my gosh! What a fantastic walk down memory lane!! I did not have Barbie or the Donny and Marie dolls but that's just because my mom didn't buy any dolls of that kind for me! I loved this!!!
Thank you for the fun brain stroll!

Rachel...did you have any dolls? If so, what kind?

Toni..you are welcome..lucky you, to have a daughter to share those things with...I love my boys, but I sure did want a little girl for those very reasons..to give her the same kind of toys...

I loved my "big wheel" which was sort of a 3 wheeler with one big plastic wheel on the front. It rode low to the ground and you could really do some cool skid outs.

I once got a pocket fisherman.

An air-powered bb-gun rifle was my favorite when I got a little older.

(I can't keep track of your posts - I posted this comment in the post below too - my bad)

DIXIECHICK said...

Oh, my brother had a big wheel...it was called the Scream Machine...I rode it too....lol...we had a big hill next to ourhouse, that was like 90 degrees, straight down...there was a few feet left, then a creek..he rode that damn thing down that heel, flipped it and wrecked in the creek..that was the end of the big wheel..lol...

Your brother sounds like a daredevil.

My 10 year old just asked for one of those new pogo sticks that uses air pressure instead of a metal spring - it can bounce 7 feet! Now that sounds a little dangerous.

Did you ever get my email from this morning - I got yours and replied earlier - I just re-sent it.

DIXIECHICK said...

Monk...he was...a total daredevil...what really pissed me off, for some reason, he was wearing my Andy Gibb t-shirt and he ripped it to shreds...lol..
I haven't seen those pogo sticks...pogo sticks are dangerous period..I never could bounce straight on those...
Yes, I finally got it...will reply to you soon.

I found an entire bag of Strawberry Shortckae dolls and accessories -- like, fourteen dolls complete with clothes and pets -- for three bucks at a consignment store last month. Youngest Daughter loves them. Now she's playing with the same toys her mom did when she was a kid.

Somebody had no idea what those things are worth now to be selling them like that, for certain.

Oh my... what a walk down memory lane...
Now I'm sitting here thinking about all the "must have" toys from my childhood... Yikes!

Thanks for the walk down memory lane! I remember ALL that stuff.

And where'd you get all those pics? I thought all those things would be long gone, never to be seen again.

I'm deprived. I didn't have toys when I was little. But I get to play with my son's toys now!

I don't remember the Donny and Marie show, but I love their duets.

my oh my, I loved sweet valley high *so much*

Though I had completely forgotten those books existed.

DIXIECHICK said...

Troy...that is so wonderful that you were able to find those..did you tell your little one that Mommy played with those when she was a little girl? I bet they are worth some money...I need to start going to consignment shops....

Roxy...thanks for stopping by...yes, it was a trip coming up with all of those...it was fun!

5150.....I got the pictures from google...really were not that hard to find...the mirror and the shrinky dinks were the hardest to fine...lol...

Daddy-O...Hon, I don't know what to say....no toys? You poor thing...but now, you can live vicariously through your kids....maybe that is why little man has such an infatuation with super heroes....lol.
I had not thought about Marie in many years, until she came on Dancing with the Stars...that is what gave me the idea for this post, because I was telling hubby about my dolls when we were watching her on the show.

Camikaos....I wished I still had my books, I would love to share with my neice....but, she is more into mystical books, etc...but, yeah...they were great, along with the Babysitters Club and Judy Blume's "Are you there God, It's me Margaret"...remember that one?

Shrinky Dinks were the best things ever! Do they still make them?

Okay, I just had to chime in and say thanks for the memories. Especially seeing the Barbie Townhouse! I received it all set up under the Christmas tree. (well, next to it anyway.) I had a couple of those other items, too. How fun!

Funny, just last Oct. I got rid of the Barbie Townhouse that had been in storage for 20+ years, thanks to my mom. I didn't have girls, either. But I had older brothers and a few things that were handed down to me I have passed on to my son.

You just gave me the best idea for a gift for my lil sister ... paper dolls ... I loved paper dolls but I haven't remembered them for such a long time now. Thank you. And though I'm 27 now, I still love the Sweet Valley Series. I have it here with me and I can't seem to part with it.

Sicilian...tell me about it..there was nothing that I had that my brother wouldn't eventually try and demolish...he was such a little pain in the neck...thanks for stopping by.

Go lightly, thanks so much for stopping by...I really had a grand time putting that list together..such wonderful childhood memories that brought back for me...I wished I had some of my things to pass on to my nieces, but unfortunately, I have not a solitary thing left from my childhood to share with them.

Judith...thanks for stopping by..I will head over your way and check you out as soon as I can...yeah, fashion plates were so much fun...I do believe I configured every possible design that could have been possible with those things...just knew I was going to be a fashion designer when I grew up...now I work for a lawn care company...how funny is that? Lol....

Kay..wow, I don't know if you can even buy paper dolls anymore...but, dang...they sure were fun for me when I was a kid...I spent hours and hours lost in my own imaginary little world with those things...If I recall correctly, I had at least three shoe boxes full of them...I have no idea what happened to them...sigh...wished I had kept some of that stuff...

Thanks everyone...Wow, I can't believe how many comments I received from this one post..I had no idea when I was wracking my brain for a Thursday 13 that I would get such a great response...
How about all of you that commented, make your own list, and share with the rest of us, on your blog, what your favorite childhood toys were....I dare you... I double dog dare you...

I had Fashion Plates too! And read ALL of Sweet Valley High - then when the younger version of it came out I read those as well (even though I was wayyy too old for them).
Thanks for sharing!
