AMERICAN IDOL...SEASON 7...TOP 9 PERFORM

Latest news update about my favorite performer:

David Cook Rushed to Hospital
April 2nd, 2008 @ 7:07 am

(“A.I” contestant David Cook was rushed to the hospital tonight after experiencing heart palpitations and high blood pressure, and released a few hours later. His condition is still not resolved.

As we first reported, Cook was not feeling well during the day and his condition worsened after his performance. Cook was examined by show medics who determined his blood pressure was “far too high.” Cook was urged to leave for the hospital during the show, but he wanted to wait it out.

After the show, Cook was driven to the hospital (not by ambulance) and treated by a private doctor to keep everything on the down low. The doctor gave Cook medication to bring his blood pressure down and he will monitored again Tuesday.

An “A.I.” exec tells us Cook has been completely stressed out because his brother, who has been sick with cancer, had a setback within the last week. Earlier in the season, just before a performance, David collapsed and said he could not go on — though he pulled it together at the last minute.

Wow...I sure hope he is going to be ok..his performance last night was phenomenal..the dude can take any song and make it his own...

Now...moving on to last nights show....

As I said in my previous post, it was Dolly Pardon night on American Idol....man, I never get tired of listening to her...for 62 years old, she still has got it....If only I could look that good at her age...I was really surprised with some of the song choices from her song book...it is so vast....I guess I expected a little more familiarity.
With the idol mentor being a woman, I was surprised to see that the majority of the praise went to the guys. Simon was in a pissy mood all night, barely praising anyone, negative...negative...negative, as usual. I just don't think he is a fan of country music...he jokingly commented at one point, after criticizing a contestant, that he probably had lost his season pass to Dollywood.....

Anyway, the show started with Ryan making an April Fool's joke....and then they dived right into the performances....let's recap!

First up...Brooke White...singing "Jolene"....

Now, even though the White Stripes tackled this song, Brooke put her on little lilt to it and I thought she did very well...she kept it traditional, which is how it should be.

Here are what the judges thought:

Randy~You kind of rushed through it...it was a little pitchy. Not stellar, just ok.

Paula~Brooke, you are consistent. You put your heart and soul into every performance and you have a true connection with the songs you pick.

Simon~That was lacking in emotion for me. You are very odd as a group (referring to the back up musicians Brooke had on stage with her)...it wasn't one of your best.

I thought it was great...I gave her four out of five stars.

Things went much better for David Cook, who was sporting a new "do"....showed off his face more, made him look a lot better, I thought. Anyway, David sang "Little Sparrow"

David wrote his own arrangement of the song, I must say...it was stellar. Once again, he added his own flair, his own style...and it totally worked for him.

Here are what the judges had to say:

Randy~You are a rocker..you have this unbelievable range. You made it your own arrangement..it was cool...another hot performance.

Paula~Fantastic...you are well-rounded.

Simon~It wasn't as good as last week, but...if you can make a song about sparrows good, which you did..congratulations!

I totally give him five stars and my vote! He is my pick to win this thing...who knows, he could be the next Chris Daughtery...

Somehow...Ramiele Malubay is still with us...all of her performances have been mediocre at best...none of them memorable...last night was no exception. She sang "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind" and as of today, I must say, Ramiele...no, you do not.

I am so over her....and her cutsieness....time for her to go. Her performance, with me...only rated three out of five stars. I do have one good thing to say, she seemed to really connect with the audience this time, instead of standing there, looking like a kewpie doll.

Here are what the judges had to say:

Randy~I wasn't jumping up and down..it was alright...I give you a 6 1/2 out of 10.

Paula~I am proud of you. You connected and you were having fun.

Simon~It was cute, you sang it well...but, it was forgettable. Very cruise ship.

Jason Castro faired a little better than Ramiele...he sang "Traveling Thru"...

He really changed it up this week, I liked it a lot. Better than last week.
I gave him four out of five stars.

Here are what the judges thought:

Randy~It started out rough, but in the middle you picked it up.Hell, yeah...it was cool. Started believing in you.

Paula~That was one of your strongest performances. You were confident, great...I loved it.

Simon~I didn't like it at all...it sounded like the same song before. I didn't get it, it didn't suit you.

Carly Smithson took the stage next, with, I am sad to say, one of the better performances of the night. She sang "Here You Come Again"...

It is no secret that I don't care too much for Carly, just because I feel she has had a leg up, an unfair advantage in this competition..but, after last night, even I admit, girl can sing....she tore that song up and I totally gave her five out of five stars.

Here are what the judges had to say:

Randy~I do think that will be one of the better performances of the night.

Paula~You have amazing talent...you look great, your voice...Oh my god....

Simon~It was good...not great. You need to have a word with whoever is dressing you...you need to look like a star at this point, and you don't.

I think Simon could take some of his own advice...the t-shirts are getting old man.

David Archuletta is back in the game..with his song choice "Smoky Mountian Memories"

Once again, he did a phenomenal job...he picked one of Dolly's favorite songs, as he sings it, she tries not to cry.
I gave him five out of five stars.

Here are what the judges had to say:

Randy~David Archuletta is back. That was the best of the night.

Paula~You have amazing tone. That was beautiful.

Simon~Absolutely on the money.

Kristy Lee Cook...who has surprisingly managed to avoid vote off...took on the Dolly classic, "Coat of Many Colors"...

That is one of my favorite Dolly songs and Kristy did ok with it. It won't keep her out of the bottom three again, though. Not that great. Now, I do have an issue with her being bare footed last night. What is up with that? Why do the stylist encourage that. Brooke White has done it as well. Ladies, keep your shoes on, please!
Makes you look a lot more classy...just sayin'!

Here are what the judges had to say:

Randy~Very nice. Definitely your wheel house.

Paula~You gave a beautiful performance. I think it was one of your best.

Simon~Last week was your best performance. This week...it was pleasant, but forgettable.

Syesha Mercado made a good choice with "I Will Always Love You"....

The bad thing is..she sang half of it like Dolly, the other half like Whitney.
I give her four out of five stars, although, I feel she should have picked a different song.

Here are what the judges had to say:

Randy~You did pretty good. It was alright.

Paula~You look beautiful. You are growing, connecting. I love it.

Simon~I forget what a brilliant song writer Dolly is. It paled by comparison to Whitney...it was good, not great.

Michael Johns was really good...jazzy, bluesy, sexy...with his song choice of "It's all Wrong, But it's Alright"...

I thought he did a terrific job..I enjoyed this performance more than any of his others. I gave him four out of five stars.

Here are what the judges thought:

Randy~You bring it up a notch every week. That was blazin hot.

Paula~You are a star...sold!

Simon~This is the best I have heard you sing.

Well, that's a wrap of last nights performances.

My pick for the bottom three:
Ramiele Malubay
Jason Castro
Kristy Lee Cook

Going home:
Ramiele Malubay

Dixiechick...out!

This week seems like an easy pick - the only performer who wasn't up to snuff was Ramiele. I believe it's her time to go.

I hope David Cook stays in the game and gets his health issues under control - he's good enough to be in the final two and possibly the ultimate winner.

Monk..hey ya stanger! Yep, Bye-bye Ramiele...I agree about David Cook...maybe he is under too much pressure right now or something..hopefully, he gets it figured out. I can see him winning this thing. He has my vote!

Pissy..right on that.
